Leadership
Southview is overseen and led by a board of elders, which includes our senior pastor. The benefits for this type of leadership are many. Accountability is provided within the team format; leadership is given through individuals with a variety of spiritual gifts; and decisions are made through the wisdom of many.
Jesus Christ is the centre and head of Southview (1 Peter 5:4; Hebrews 13:20; Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18, 2:10, 18, 19). The essence of the elders' responsibility is to seek His direction in overseeing, guiding and caring for the church.
Our pastoral staff are responsible for equipping the people of Southview for serving and minstering to others. In the Bible in Ephesians 4:11-13 we read: "It was Jesus Christ who gave some in the church to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers to equip God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ might be built up." We often summarize it this way: "The members of our church body are the ministers; our pastoral staff are the equippers."
